How can I join the Bungee Book Club?
Nothing could be easier. For USAID employees with an official USAID.gov e-mail account, you may subscribe by visiting our BBC Group landing page and clicking the “join” button. If you are one of our implementing partners or friends outside of USAID, please email Susan Pologruto (spologruto@usaid.gov) and say, “Put me on The BBC mail list.” You’re in.
How do I participate?
People participate in a variety of ways.
Some never miss a book club meeting.
Some are here just to see our curated reading book list.
Some come occasionally.
Some just need a forum to have meaningful discussion and to mingle with their colleagues.
Does The BBC have any rules that we must abide by?
The BBC Rules of Meetings:
- We start on time and we end on time.
- We won’t waste your time.
How am I informed when a book is selected and when The BBC will be meeting to discuss it?
You will receive an email announcing the book selection and a Google calendar invite with the book discussion date and time.
How frequently does The BBC read a book?
We recognize that USAID staffers are busy folks. We generally read a book then take about a month off before starting the next one.
Where do you buy books?
Most of the BBC book selections are available for free at your local library. If you live in the DC Metro area, please consider supporting one of our local book sellers: Politics and Prose, Solid State Books, LoyaltyBookstore, or Mahogany Books. When buying a book online, you may want to consider this list of diverse owned bookstores before buying from a major retailer.
How can I recommend a book?
We believe in reading books from a wide range of voices and perspectives, and your ideas are welcome. Please send any book recommendations or suggestions on how we can engage others to: spologruto@usaid.gov.
